Galerie Zygos was founded in 1956 by art journalist and fine arts connoisseur Frantzis Frantzeskakis and his wife Catherine, the publishers of "Zygos" art magazine (1955-1982).

From 1982 to 1985 Zygos published a set of four volumes of the Zygos Annual Edition on the Hellenic Fine Arts, in English.

From 1994 through 1997 Ion Frantzeskakis, the founders' son, also founded and operated Stoa Gallery in Petaluma, Northern California.

Under the direction of Ion Frantzeskakis, Galerie Zygos now operates as an art dealership, without a physical location.
